Tesla, Greg, and some other people.

In the 1800’s, a man named Nicola Tesla was inventing things. He had thus far created the tesla coil, the telephone booth, and the stay-puft marshmallow. But now he was working on an invention that could rock the very stones of our civilization. He was creating an earthquake machine. This revolutionary device could match the resonant frequency of any structure, and destroy it. He knew that with the creation of this device, many governments would be anxious to possess a weapon of that strength. Therefore, Tesla decided to hide it away in a deep underground cavern. But, unfortunately Tesla had included in A.I in the designs for this machine and so, when it was first switched on, it completely destroyed the laboratory. It was once more switched off, and sent to the deep underground cave. But when was unpacked at the cave, it was accidentally turned on again, and it killed everyone within 500 yards. After the many years it was stored underground in this cave, its power supply is at a minimum, and it only has enough power for the occasional small earthquake. The occasional cave explorer sometimes falls into the cave, and the machine uses their remains to give itself energy for another large quake. This would all be fine, but in 1915, Greg the evil genius created a machine for each country and buried them underground. This is why there are earthquakes all around the world. THE END
